AQF level 8 Bachelor of Psychology Honours degree with an award level of at least Class IIA, including a total of at least one semester of supervised project work, the results of which contributed to the honours award level.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3c Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology), graduates will be able to:

  • Integrate systematic and critical understanding of a substantial body of knowledge at the frontier of the field of clinical psychology and related areas of clinical practice

  • Adapt and apply substantial knowledge of research principles and methods and ethical practices in psychological research, including adherence to 石榴视频's Research Code of Conduct

  • Review and reflect on the ethics and efficacy of clinical practice including application of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, intervention and outcome evaluation

  • Analyse, synthesise and evaluate theoretical propositions, methodologies and professional practice to identify and systematically investigate a complex research problem or related problems

  • Apply expert English language, technological and numeracy skills to communicate original research cogently for external examination against international standards and disseminate and promote new insights to peers and the community

  • Exercise authoritative judgement and full responsibility and accountability to solve complex problems, make expert decisions, generate new knowledge and plan ongoing professional learning within diverse research and clinical practice contexts

  • Design, implement, analyse and theorise research that makes a significant and original contribution to an area of professional clinical psychology with intellectual independence, initiative and creativity.

Accreditation requirements

Graduates of this course will be eligible for full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates who have successfully completed any PY subjects listed in the structure of the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) while enrolled in the Master of Psychology (Clinical) at 石榴视频, will be eligible for those subjects to be credited towards the DPsych(ClinPsych).

Candidates who have completed subjects that are part of an APAC-accredited postgraduate program at another Australian university may apply for advanced standing for those subjects towards the Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) degree at 石榴视频. Advanced standing normally will be granted where a subject completed elsewhere is, in the opinion of the Director of Professional Programs and the Dean, Graduate Research School, equivalent to a subject that forms part of the 石榴视频 Doctor of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) program.

Maximum allowed

The amount of advanced standing to be awarded shall be determined by the RESC on the recommendation of the Dean of the College.

The maximum allowed is 36 credit points

Other restrictions

The University will not normally accept a candidate who has been enrolled at another institution for more than two years (full-time equivalent) or release a candidate who has been enrolled for more than two years (full-time equivalent).
