Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Completion of an AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree (or qualifications recognised by the Division as equivalent) in a relevant clinical based health, allied health or other relevant field, and

At least 12 months experience working in their chosen field since undergraduate course completion

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Post admission requirements

Hepatitis B immunisation:

Students must provide evidence of being immune to hepatitis B within the first teaching period of their studies. A blood-borne viral disease may result in a student’s inability to obtain a placement in a Queensland Health facility and consequently may result in their inability to complete the requirements of the course as accredited by the relevant professional accrediting body. If a student has not complied with the above requirement by the last day of the first teaching period of their studies, their enrolment will be terminated immediately.

Suitability to Work with Children Card (blue card):

This course includes prescribed professional or clinical placements that may involve contact with children under 18 years of age. Students are required to obtain a Suitability to Work with Children Card (which involves a criminal history check undertaken by the Queensland Police) before the start of the first placement. Students must retain a current Suitability to Work with Children Card for the duration of their course, as failure to do so will result in the termination of their admission to the course.

Current CPR Certificate:

Some professional/clinical placement agencies may require that candidates hold a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate before undertaking a professional or clinical placement. Students are responsible for any costs associated with obtaining this certificate.

Australian Federal Police check:

This course includes prescribed professional or clinical placements.  Some placement agencies may require students to produce a current Australian Federal Police check. This is in addition to the requirements for a Blue Card. If requested, students must provide written confirmation of clearance to the Clinical Placement Officer prior to commencement of clinical placement.

Students must undertake 80 hours of clinical placement as part of the professional practice subject. Attendance at two 5 day residential schools is also a requirement of the course.  This will be held in April and September starting from 2015.

  • Demonstrate effective leadership and oral and written communication skills in advocating for diabetes prevention, education and care to optimise the health and welfare of individuals and populations

  • Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes, and plan ongoing personal and professional development.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Maximum allowed

6 credit points except where a student transfers from one 石榴视频 award to another, then advanced standing may be granted for more than two-thirds of the new award, where there is subject equivalence between the awards.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for subjects completed in the last 5 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 8 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.
