Course pre-requisites

Completion of an undergraduate/graduate degree in dentistry at this or another University more than three years previously.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Students of non-English speaking backgrounds must have an adequate English language capacity assessed under the Australian International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3b – Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Immunisations:

Students must provide evidence that they have been vaccinated or evidence that they are not susceptible  for the vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) of Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella and Pertussis. Students enrolled in Dental Courses are required to undergo testing for Blood-Borne Viruses (BBVs) including Hepatitis B , Hepatitis C and Human Immunodeficiency virus before, or on entry to the Course. Professional experience placement is a requirement of  this course and students may be engaged in roles where there is contact that would allow transmission of a VPD or BBV.

Students are required to comply with the above requirement prior to commencing their first Professional Experience Placement or by the end of the first teaching period of their studies, otherwise their enrolment will be terminated.

Computer and internet access is required due to online/external course delivery

Course learning outcomes

Characteristics of learning outcomes for this course are consistent with those outlined in the Graduate Diploma Guidelines in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF level 8).

Graduates of the Graduate Diploma of Dental Implantology will be able to:

  • Consolidate, analyse and apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, biomechanics and materials science relevant to dental implantology
  • Apply anatomical, physiological and biomaterials knowledge to the specialist clinical diagnosis, treatment and management of patients
  • Critically interpret and evaluate diagnostic and clinical information to facilitate successful diagnosis, planning and treatment of patients and their suitability for dental implant treatment
  • Relate and interpret complex diagnostic information from clinical and radiographic examinations and special tests to the treatment and management of dental patients, optimizing the selection of the best materials, devices and techniques
  • Apply advanced clinical and technical skills in clinical patient surgery, treatment and prosthodontic restoration
  • Apply a thorough understanding of the pathology of periodontal and peri-implant disease processes to the maintenance and treatment of dental implant patients.
