Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Must be a registered midwife; and

Have completed an AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree in Midwifery  or an AQF level 8 Graduate Diploma of Midwifery; or

Submit, as an exceptional case, other evidence of appropriate academic and professional attainments.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Midwifery will be able to:

  • demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge of contemporary midwifery practice, professional responsibilities and ethical frameworks with a focus on regional, rural, remote, indigenous and tropical contexts

  • implement and evaluate midwifery models of care, responsive to consumer demands, that improves health outcomes for mothers and their families

  • analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories in new situations or contexts with creativity and independence

  • demonstrate a high level of professional autonomy and accountability for their professional development and contribute to the professional development of others

  • evaluate and apply established and evolving evidence and concepts to reflect critically on theory and professional practice

  • interpret and justify theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences through high level written and oral communication and numeracy skills

  • design, plan and ethically execute a research based project or piece of scholarship

  • actively engage in promoting scholarship within the midwifery profession.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy associated procedures.

18 credit points (consisting of maximum 12 credit points for previous studies; maximum of 6 credit points for RPL)

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 16 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the candidate has not completed the course of study prescribed for the degree.
