Course pre-requisites

1. Completion of an AQF level 7 Bachelor of Science degree with a Geology major, or Bachelor of Geology degree from this or another university; or

Other qualifications or practical experience recognised by the Dean, College of Science and Engineering as equivalent to the above; and

2. Minimum 3 years of minerals industry and/or government geologist experience; and

3. Employed at the time of application, with a supporting letter from the employer.

* Applicants with 6 or more years of mineral industry experience and evidence of sufficient financial capacity may be excepted from criteria #3.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 2 Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Special admission requirements

International Students undertaking the course on a student visa are restricted in their study plan options.

In the course structure only Option 2 and Option 4 are available and students will also need to select subjects from Table 2.  The 4 part time Research Dissertation subjects EA5535:03, EA5536:03, EA5537:03 and EA5538:03, ensure that at least one subject is undertaken in each of the compulsory study periods.

International students who are not on a student visa are not restricted by the above requirements

Graduates of the Masters of Mineral Geoscience at 石榴视频 will be able to:

- Integrate and apply an advanced body of theoretical and technical knowledge, including understanding of recent developments, in minerals geoscience;

- Retrieve, analyse, synthesise and evaluate complex information, concepts and theories from a range of sources;

- Plan and conduct reliable, evidence-based laboratory and/or field experiments/practices by selecting and applying methods, techniques and tools, as appropriate to minerals geoscience;

- Organise, analyse and interpret complex scientific data using advanced mathematical, statistical and technological skills;

- Communicate theoretical propositions, methodologies, scientific data, arguments and conclusions clearly and coherently to specialist and non-specialist audiences through advanced written and oral English language skills and a variety of media;

- Identify, analyse and generate solutions to unpredictable or complex problems, especially related to tropical, rural, remote or Indigenous contexts, by applying scientific knowledge and skills with initiative and expert judgement;

- Critically review regulatory requirements, ethical principles and, where appropriate, cultural frameworks, to work effectively, responsibly and safely in diverse contexts;

- Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes to manage their professional learning needs and performance, autonomously and in collaboration with others;

-  Apply knowledge of research principles, methods, techniques and tools to plan and execute a substantial research-based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship.

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for exemption for previous tertiary study, including National Minerals Geoscience Masters Program subjects where appropriate in accordance with  the Advanced Standing and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 16 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.
