Course pre-requisites

Completion of a four-year Bachelor of Engineering at AQF Level 7 (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Note: Entry for Master of Engineering (Professional) in Water Resource Management; Internet of Things and Data Engineering; and Electrical and Renewable Energy majors require completion of a four-year Bachelor of Engineering at AQF Level 7 (or equivalent) in a discipline cognate to the major.

Entry requirements for this course are consistent with the Pathways to Qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF level 9) Guidelines for Masters degrees.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Master of Engineering (Professional), graduates will be able to:

  • Integrate and apply an advanced technical knowledge including an understanding of recent developments, in one or more engineering disciplines
  • Critically appraise the role and relevance of engineering in society, with specific reference to practices and priorities for creating sustainable communities and industries in the tropics
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of advanced engineering methods, including design processes, whole system approaches, contemporary project management tools, and decision-making strategies through  their application in engineering practice
  • Articulate and communicate ideas, arguments and conclusions clearly and coherently to specialist and non-specialist audiences through advanced written and oral English language skills and a variety of media
  • Apply knowledge of research principles, methods, techniques and tools to plan and execute a substantial research-based project, capstone experience and/or piece of scholarship within a professional workplace environment.
  • Lead teams to achieve engineering project goals through advanced professional and leadership skills, self-motivation, creative thinking and entrepreneurship

Advanced Standing

Eligibility

Students may apply for advanced standing for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Credit and Articulation policy and associated procedures.

Advanced Standing may be granted for the following:

  • Up to 12 credit points for cognate study closely aligned with course content.
  • Up to 24 credit points may be granted for an AQF Level 9 qualification in Engineering.

Advanced Standing will only be granted for subjects aligned to the current course’s learning outcomes and if the applicant demonstrates sufficient prior knowledge and skills to achieve the course learning outcomes in the time available in the course

Maximum allowed

24 credit points, except where a student transfers from one 石榴视频 award to another, then advanced standing may be granted for more than two-thirds of the new award, where there is subject equivalence between the awards

Currency

Advanced standing will be granted only for studies completed in the 10 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Advanced standing gained for any subject shall be cancelled 15 years after the date of the examination upon which the advanced standing is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

Advanced standing will not be granted for undergraduate studies or work experience used to gain admission to the course when assessed separately for admission requirements.
