Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Registration as a nurse, doctor of medicine or other health professional in Australia; or

Completion of an appropriate AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a relevant discipline with 2 years relevant experience or equivalent.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a – Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Additional selection requirements

In some instances students may be called for interview, prior to admission.

Course learning outcomes

The Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education enables health professionals working in regional and remote tropical Australia to complete a postgraduate qualification to enhance their teaching and learning skills. The course introduces basic concepts essential for learning,  teaching  and supervising in clinical settings for health professionals.

Students will develop knowledge, skills and attitudes as effective educators to deliver best practice teaching and learning opportunities for students in all health professions.

Graduates of the Graduate Certificate of Health Professional Education will be able to:

  • Apply advanced knowledge of educational theoretical concepts, student鈥恈entred and adult learning principles, and evidence-based techniques for teaching and learning in clinical practice contexts

  • Plan, implement and evaluate learning, teaching and assessment experiences, with an emphasis on reflective practice, to learning and teaching in a clinical context

  • Apply an evidence-based approach through action research skills in health professional education

  • Interpret and apply principles, theories and methods of medical/health professional education through high-level written and spoken English

  • Demonstrate personal autonomy and accountability for own professional development as an educator.
