Admission Requirements

Course pre-requisites

Registration as a nurse, doctor of medicine or other health professional in Australia; or

Completion of an appropriate AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree in a relevant discipline with 2 years relevant experience or equivalent.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a Schedule II of the 石榴视频 Admissions Policy.

Additional entry requirements

In extenuating circumstances some students may be called for interview, prior to admission.

Post admission requirements

For flexible delivery option, computer and internet access is required.

Course learning outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Health Professional Education will be able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge of evidence-based teaching and learning strategies, assessment, evaluation and curriculum design at an advanced or “leader” level of practice

  • Investigate, analyse and synthesise theories and principles of health professional education to solve complex problems unique to regional, remote and tropical Australia with a high degree of autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility

  • Develop leadership skills in the design and delivery of health professional education at a course, program and/or institutional level

  • Engage in research to critically evaluate, reflect on and apply new knowledge to the practice of health professional education

  • Demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy and accountability for own professional development in a leadership role in medical/health professional education

  • Conceptualise, interpret and justify principles, theories and methods of medical/health professional education for a variety of audiences at an advanced level of written and spoken English

  • Design, manage and conduct a research鈥恇ased project with professionalism and careful consideration for current ethical principles.

Eligibility

Students may apply for exemption for previous tertiary study where appropriate in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure.

Maximum allowed

18 credit points except where a student transfers from one 石榴视频 award to another, then credit may be granted for more than two-thirds of the new award, where there is subject equivalence between the awards (e.g. 24 credit points for Graduate Diploma of Health Professional Education).

Currency

Credit will be granted only for subjects completed in the last 6 years prior to the commencement of this course.

Expiry

Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 14 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.

Other restrictions

Studies and/or professional experiences undertaken to fulfil the entry requirements to 石榴视频 awards may not be used for credit.

Students who exit the course prior to completion, and have completed 12 credit points of appropriate subjects, may be eligible for the award of Graduate Certificate of Health Professional Education OR Students who exit the course prior to completion, and have completed 24 credit points of appropriate subjects, may be eligible for the award of Graduate Diploma of Health Professional Education.

Course articulation

Students who complete this course are eligible for entry to equivalent graduate courses available at the time, within 石榴视频 guidelines and may be granted credit for subjects completed under this course.

Special Awards

Where coursework is completed at a grade point average of 6 or above, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, on the recommendation of the College Dean may recommend the award of a Master of Health Professional Education with Distinction.
