Students are required to maintain an average passing mark in each semester of study (see Progression Requirements).  Supplementary assessment or supplementary examination may be offered in any subject within this course, at the discretion of the Course Coordinator, for the purpose of allowing individual students to achieve this average passing mark.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of the Bachelor of Environmental Science at ʯÁñÊÓƵ, graduates will be able to:

• Integrate and apply a coherent body of theoretical and technical knowledge, including underlying concepts and principles, in the environmental science discipline
• Critically appraise the role and relevance of science in society generally, and environmental science in particular, in creating sustainable futures in the tropics, worldwide
• Demonstrate broad understanding of the methods of science, particularly as applied to environmental science, including the creative processes involved in developing scientific knowledge, and its contestable and testable nature
• Retrieve, analyse, synthesise and evaluate information from a range of sources
• Plan and conduct reliable, evidence-based laboratory and/or field experiments by selecting and applying methods, techniques and tools, as appropriate to the environmental science discipline
• Organise, analyse and interpret scientific data using mathematical, statistical and technological skills
• Convey scientific ideas, arguments and conclusions clearly and coherently through well-developed written and oral communication skills and a variety of media
• Identify, analyse and generate solutions to unpredictable or complex problems by applying environmental scientific knowledge and skills with initiative and well-developed judgement

Course progression

Students must achieve an average passing mark (as agreed by both the Course Coodinator and the University of New Caledonia*) across all subjects studied in a given Teaching Period, inclusive of any supplementary assessment, before they may enrol in subjects in a subsequent Teaching Period.

* The average passing mark will be 50% of the full mark range, regardless of the mark range used for each subject or institution.  That is, 10/20 or 50/100 are equivalent for the purpose of this rule.

Eligibility

Students may apply for credit transfer for previous tertiary study in accordance with the Credit Transfer Procedure

Credit gained for any subject shall be cancelled 13 years after the date of the examination upon which the credit is based if, by then, the student has not completed this course.
